Signs Your DL06 Needs an Overhaul

• High oil consumption and blue smoke. Usually worn rings, liners or valve guides.
• Blow-by. Heavy vapor from the crankcase breather means combustion gases are getting past the rings.
• Loss of power when digging or traveling. The machine feels slow and the engine drops under hydraulic load.
• Coolant loss or white smoke. Often a failed head gasket.
• Hard starting. Low compression from worn rings and valves.
• Low oil pressure. Worn bearings or a tired oil pump.

How a DL06 Overhaul Is Usually Done

• Diagnose first. Run a compression test and an oil analysis to confirm the engine needs a rebuild and not just fuel system or turbo work.
• Tear down and measure. Measure liners, crankshaft journals, camshaft and cylinder heads against the service manual limits.
• Replace the wear parts. Liners, pistons, rings, bearings, bushings, valves, springs, guides, seats and gaskets.
• Machine what is reusable. Heads are surfaced and valve seats cut. The crankshaft is polished or ground if needed.
• Reassemble to spec. Follow the manual's torque values and sequences, especially for head bolts and bearing caps.
• Break in the engine. Run it under progressive load and change oil and filters after the first hours of operation.
